Hospice care is specialized, customized care for the people—and their loved ones—who are nearing the end of life. Hospice care focuses on helping people have the highest possible quality of life by minimizing symptoms and pain so they can make the most of every day. Hospice care is designed for people who are no longer seeking treatments to cure their illness, and who have a life expectancy of six months or less.
Since 1977, Hospice of Spokane has been delivering this compassionate care wherever our clients call home. Whether they live in a house, a nursing home, the hospital, or on the streets, our care teams bring them the comfort, dignity, and peace of mind that only hospice care can provide. On top of that, we’re available 24/7 via phone; because we know not all needs for help happen between 8:00 and 5:00.
Our nurses, social workers, nurse aides, chaplains, and volunteers help clients and loved ones prepare for, and navigate, what can be a challenging experience. Working closely with our clients, their loved ones, and their physicians, we help people through this difficult time. And following the person’s death, our bereavement counselors help comfort the loved ones through the grieving process.
Hospice of Spokane is a Medicare-certified hospice and therefore our services are covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurance policies. For those without insurance, we offer a sliding scale. Thanks to our donors’ support, nobody has ever been turned away because they were unable to pay for hospice care.
