When should someone be referred to hospice care?
When the person’s physician predicts the person has six months or less to live, and the person is no longer interested in seeking treatment to cure the illness, hospice care can help.

If the physician predicts the person has longer than six months—or if curative treatment is still being pursued—the person and his or her loved ones should begin to find out more about hospice services so they are better prepared for the future.
